ABOUT SPRING CLEAN

As part of the European URBAN Programme which the Partnership Council delivered between 1996 and 2001 a variety of issue were raised about the state of cleansing in the area.

In 2000 a steering group, made up of local residents, officers of the City Council, Partnership Council staff and representatives of the business community was set up to try and develop some short, medium and long term answers to some of the more complex problems related to litter and rubbbish. Problems ranged from litter and dog mess to fly tipping. There are also significant problems related to student landlords and general public attitudes towards litter and cleansing.

The Inititaive has carried out a number of projects and work since 2001 including clean-ups, campaigns, educational work and service change.
